ADOPTION: If you are interested in adopting an Alaskan Malamute or would like to register with our service:

REHOMING: If you have an Alaskan Malamute you can no longer keep and would like to register with our service:

Please note that dogs referred via the AMCV Referral Service are in no way assessed by the AMCV, we are simply assisting in getting those wanting to adopt a Malamute in touch with people or organisations who have Malamutes needing new homes. The AMCV is in no way endorsing or recommending these Malamutes as being suitable for you - this is for you to determine.

If you would like further information about adopting a Malamute via the AMCV Referral Service, please email the AMCV or phone our club's Malamute Referral Officer, contact details available via the Committee Contact Info link.

AN EASY WAY YOU CAN ASSIST US WITH MALAMUTE RESCUE:

If you see a Malamute listed in an animal shelter that is not on our website, please email us at amcv@bigpond.com.au or contact Ralph or Sandy by phone on 9714 8540.

The sooner they are listed with us the more chance we have of saving them.

PLEASE NOTE:
Malamutes most often DO NOT get along with dogs of the same sex - if you already have a dog you should only consider adopting a Malamute of the opposite sex.

Please look at adopting from your local area or same State if possible for the following reasons:

  • This allows you (and your dogs) to meet the new dog to make sure everyone will get along before you make your decision.

  • You can then take a dog for a trial period (which we strongly recommend) and easily return the dog if it does not work out.

  • This will avoid the need for long distance travel which may be difficult to organise and may be traumatic for some dogs.

 Name: HORSE
Sex: Male - desexed
Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Age:  1 year
Adoption Fee: $350
(Included desexing, c3 vaccination, michrochip)
Microchip number: 900012000697361
Other information provided:
HORSE is a big, gentle 14 month old Mally boy, who has basic obedience and will follow commands....especially if there are treats involved, which will make ongoing training a lot easier when he is so food motivated.
He is adorable and winning people’s hearts at his rescue. Horse walks really well on the lead (especially for a Mal, who are known lovers of pulling) and he loves to romp around and act like the big puppy he still is.
However, Horse has been allowed to get his own way a fair bit of the time and would be suited to someone who is Mally savvy and a good firm but fair leader who can teach him the rules and gain his respect. Once he is told, he knows his place and behaves well. Horse just needs some consistency.
Being a Malamute, he requires daily exercise and his grooming needs are high to continue to keep his coat looking so great.. Strong, secure fencing is also a must.
If you would like to know more about Horse, please contact Peta at Wodonga Dog Rescue.

Aysha was adopted from the Lost Dogs' Home, however her owner is now unable to walk her and her family situation has changed, so reluctantly she needs to find a new home for Aysha.

Aysha is said to be a sweet dog who has been well trained by her previous owners but will pull on lead at times as any self-respecting Malamute will do! She needs to be with a family that can give her more attention and exercise.

As she is still very young and currently only started in the past few months with obedience training, Indie will need ongoing training and socialisation to help her reach her full potential.
High, strong, dig-proof, escape proof fencing is a requirement, as well as daily exercise to keep Indie physically and mentally stimulated.

Name: SULTAN
Sex: Male - desexed
Breed:  Malamute X Husky
Age:  5 years

Adoption Fee: $350

(Includes desexing, C5 vaccination, microchipping, heartworm test/treatment and worm/flea treated)
Other information provided:
SULTAN is a gorgeous and affectionate 5yr old Husky X Mal boy. He is medium sized and has the facial features of a Husky but his body shape, legs and feet are far more Malamute like, as is his temperament and selectiveness in doggy peers.

He LOVES his walks and to run when possible. He does pull a little at first when walking but then walks quite well after the initial excitement wears off.

Sultan would need a owner who is prepared to provide ongoing training and socialisation, as well as provide him with sufficient daily exercise to keep him mentally and physically stimulated. Frequent grooming is also a requirement and strong, secure fencing.

He is fine with children but would be best suited as an only dog with lots of love and attention as he does not get along with other dogs and prefers his own space.

Poor Sultan seems to have had quite a bad life so far, he has been quite neglected and is in very poor condition. His coat has been shaved and it also appears as though chunks has been chopped away as it is growing back quite unevenly and patchy...which can often occur with shaving. He has quite severe fly bite on his ears which are also starting to heal and are being treated whilst in foster care.  Sultan has had a bath and a really good brush since this photo was taken.
*NO CATS OR SMALL ANIMALS as he has a strong Prey drive*

Please contact Jane at Siberian Husky Rehoming if you are interested in adopting Sultan.

Name: BLAZE
Sex: Male - desexed
Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Age:  10 years (DOB: 2/9/01)
Adoption Fee: On application.
(Blaze is desexed, vaccinated April/May 2011, heartworm tested/treated and microchipped)
Microchip number: 985100009550736
Other information provided:
Be prepared to fall in love! Meet BLAZE - an absolutely adorable, goofy and affectionate Mally boy who, even though he's just turned 10 years of age, acts much younger and is still an extremely strong, spritely and playful chap . He LOVES being with people and is just great with children.
He gets on fine with submissive female dogs but would need an introduction to any existing female. Blaze has a very high prey drive, so cats or any pocket pets would be unsuitable.
Due to a change in family circumstances, Blaze, who was rehomed in July 2010, is now in need of a new family and as he's such a lovable big boofa, we truly want him to be spoiled and well treated for his last years with an energetic family who will be prepared to exercise, walk and include him in daily activities, as well as provide frequent grooming.
Don't be fooled by his age...this gorgeous boy will still need daily walking. Can you open up your heart and home for such a sweetheart?
Please contact Lidia if you can foster or adopt Blaze.

They have not had much exposure to small children or other dogs and would benefit from further ongoing training. At present they are prone to jumping up in excitement.
Due to a medical condition their owner cannot walk them, so the family would like to see them go to a new home where they can still be together and receive all the attention, care and exercise they deserve.
Strong secure fencing is a must and an owner who is prepared to exercise daily and groom regularly to keep them in top condition.

WOW! Isn't NANA a stunner? This lovely girl is 4.5 yr old is very friendly, outgoing and good with kids... however, she is scared of cats and a bit selective on the dogs she likes to hang out with, so would prefer to be an only dog. Nana is a lovely Mally girl but would need a breed-experienced owner willing to continue with consistent, ongoing training to gain an...d keep her respect.
Nana has always been an outside dog but would love a family who would let her join in family activities inside. Housetraining doesn't take long at all with adults.
Having a strong prey drive, Nana would not be suitable to be rehomed with small dogs or animals.
She is a little tubby at 38kgs but once she gets her required daily exercise, Nana should lose it fairly quickly. Secure fencing and frequent grooming is also required.

Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Age: 2 years

Adoption Fee: $300
(Includes desexing, microchip, c5 vaccinated, heartworm test/ treated, flea/worm treated)

Her previous owner said Skittles is fine with other dogs and so far, she has been ok with male dogs but doesn't tolerate any 'rudeness' from them and will quickly put them in their place, so a meet and greet... with any new doggy friend is advisable.
Due to stress of being in the pound, she has dropped her undercoat.

Name: AMAROK
Sex: Male - desexed
Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Age: 2 years

Adoption Fee: $ 300
(Amarok is desexed, microchipped and vaccinated)
Other information provided:
AMAROK is a 2.5year old male Alaskan Malamute who is a very large (62 kgs) but gentle boy. Amarok loves water and is fine with other dogs, he is currently sharing a yard with several other dogs including a King Charles Cavalier but would need a more submissive existing dog as he can become dominant if allowed and requires a firm but fair leader. ...

Amarok was previously a house dog and has spent little time on the lead as he has always responded well to vocal commands...however, off lead is never recommended in an unsecured area. He has been started on lead training and thus far he has responded well with little hassle.

Amarok does not dig holes and his bottom is too big to let him jump over any fences :) He gets along fine with all the animals at Arcadia Ridge including the cats and alpaca's. Thus being said the cats there are used to malamutes and do not run or hiss at them. He loves to have a chat with you and only jumps up when he is super excited (which is being worked)).

Amarok came into Arcadia Ridge's care due to absolutely NO fault of his own, his owners went thru a messy divorce which lead them to rent houses which unfortunately would not allow large dogs. ***Please note the spelling of Arkadia in his picture is incorrect...there is no 'c' in the spelling of Arkadia. Thanks.***
Please contact Meggz at Arkadia Ridge if you can help Amarok.

Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Age: 5 Years
Adoption Fee: TBA

Other information provided:
Can you imagine how wonderful this little girls cuddles would be?? CLOUDY is a gorgeous and VERY woolly purebred Mally girl of 5 yrs old who is in need of a loving new family who will be prepared to brush her daily to keep her thick coat under control and maintained so she can look her very best and most importantly, be comfortable.
She has grown up with the 5yo son of her owner, so is great with children and is a very well-mannered girl who responds well to directions and praise, does not react to other dogs when out and walks good on lead without pulling.
Cloudy does get a little grumpy if woken up suddenly after resting from her daily walks but then again...so do a lot us and some of our dogs:)
Secure and strong fencing is required, as well as plenty of shaded area. Cloudy is used to being an outdoor dog and is not yet housetrained....but would probably like a family who would let her join them on inside as well, as she is prone to flybite on her ears and will need daily protective cream administered.

Cloudy is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested/treated, flea/worm treated.

He is very human friendly, loves his pats, is food motivated and allows full handling. He appears fine with female dogs but not recommended to be rehomed with very young children, cats or pocket pets.
Andre would need strong, secure fencing, daily exercise and frequent grooming.

Breed:  Malamute x German Shepherd
Age: 5 years

Other information provided:
Wow...isn't FIFI striking? A lovely 5yr old Mal x GSD who adores the 10 mth old son of her current owner, so would be fabulous with children and a wonderful family companion. She has medium level obedience training and is housetrained.
Like most Mally girls when it comes to the same gender, Fifi does not get on with the female Jack Russell she has to share her home with but she does get along brilliantly with her male buddy. She also likes to chase the chickens next door...but what self-respecting Mally girl wouldn't??
Fifi is looking for a loving new family who don't have any female dogs or small pets, but may also have a male doggy companion for her to become good friends with and spend time with...

Sex: Female - desexed

Age: 2 Years
Adoption Fee: $350 (Includes desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm treated)

Other information provided:
What's big, goofy, talkative, sweet as pie, and normally extremely fluffy but looking a little naked right now? Ummm...that would be me! Hi, I'm JAZZ (aka JazzyCat – yes, I'm obviously a dog but my foster carers find it hilarious that I'm looking quite lionish at the moment with my bad haircut). In my previous home, my beautiful coat was allowed to become matted and so I was unfortunately shaved. Then the good folk at ABR picked me up, tutted, shook their heads, laughed a little and then proceeded to spoil me rotten because they felt sorry for me! My coat will take a while to grow back, but when it does, it will need daily grooming as I'm a woolly Malamute. This defect (albeit a gorgeous one) means that my coat retains shed fur – instead of it falling out, it must be combed out. I really don't want to get into that funky, tangled mess again so please, only consider me as a new addition to the family if you're willing to spend the time to make me look and feel like the princess that I am. I'm good with other dogs and would prefer to have a canine buddy, but being a Malamute girl, this doggy-friend should be a boy.. Cats are tasty so by all means, apply to adopt me if you have a cat, but don't expect it to last long. I was raised with 6 kids so I have learned to be gentle. My legs are lanky and my paws are huge though so I can come across as being a bit of a clumsy goofball. Everything I do is quite comical. You are guaranteed a laugh a minute with me! I don't run as much as 'galumph' along, with my tongue lolling happily out the side of my mouth. Then I slide myself down into my favourite position – the 'frog' – with my feet out behind me. Typically a Staffy pose, but who says that they're allowed to have all the fun? A bit of a chatterbox, I love to tell you all about my day – wooo-oooo-oooooo – before dumping my head in your lap and demanding an ear rub. I am strong on-lead but definitely not unmanageable. Having basic obedience, I'm very well-behaved and want to please you. Everyone is my friend – I'll size you up for only half a second before I decide that you're my new BFF. Like most Mallies, I am a people-person (er, dog). I love to be wherever you are, I'm housetrained and would look particularly favourably on any applications that say that I'm allowed to sleep on your bed ;)

Name: CHARLOTTE
Sex: Female - desexed
Age: 5 years
Breed:  Malamute X Husky

Adoption Fee: $325 (includes vaccination, microchip, worming)

Other information provided:

Good day to you. May I introduce myself? You may have heard of Scarlett from Gone With The Wind...well I'm another demure Southern belle - by the name of CHARLOTTE. Like all genteel young ladies, my manners are impeccable...I am polite, I sit on command, shake, come when called and sit quietly while waiting to be fed. It's all part of my Southern charm. I don't dig or jump fences – my Mama brought me up the right way.

Similar to Miss O'Hara, I too am a social butterfly. I long to be the centre of attention, I love children and am a calm, gentle, friendly young lady. I like to be pampered with belly rubs, walks and a soft bed where I can catch up on my beauty sleep.

Due to an injury that I'd rather not talk about, my tongue is held rolled back in my mouth. It doesn't cause me any problems and I can still eat and drink normally. You wouldn't even notice it unless you looked inside my mouth, which frankly, where I come from, is considered rude anyway. It just takes me a little longer to finish my meal, but a lady shouldn't wolf down her food in any case – it's just not nice manners.

Like all Southern women, I have a feisty side too. I'm a little spoilt and won't tolerate the company of other dogs. I want to be the belle of the ball and the centre of your world. All I dream of is what Scarlett never had...a happy ending...will you sweep me off my paws so we can walk off into the sunset together?

Charlotte is child-friendly, but not dog- or cat-friendly.

Bonjour ma cherie, I am Monsieur Smoochypooch and my aim in life is to shower you with my love, adoration and loyalty. I'm a Pepe Le Pew kind of guy who has so much affection to give that I'll make friends with everybody, human and canine. (I like cats and small dogs too – perhaps a little too much – I have a love of fine cuisine, which as everyone knows comes in small portions). Ah, c'est la vie!
Speaking of Pepe Le Pew, have you seen the way he leaps around? I like to copy him, jumping high and prancing and showing off for the ladies. I have springs in my paws and will bounce over the fence if there's a pretty mademoiselle on the other side so you'll need a 6ft fence that I can't dig under either. True to my breeds, I'm an active guy who will need to be exercised daily. Take me for a walk or a run and please, please take me to the dog park where I can meet new friends. I am 5 years old but young at heart.
Like all French men, I have a certain je ne sais quoi – there is something about me that you just can't resist. Perhaps it is my suave manner, non? Perhaps it is my stunning eyes – one ice-blue Husky eye, one warm chocolate-brown Malamute eye.
I learn quickly as I aim to please. I want to be wherever you are and love cuddles and company – both the human and canine variety and food, glorious FOOD! Bon appetit! Until our rendezvous....I bid you adieu...

Smooch is child-friendly, but not cat-friendly

Sex: Female - desexed
Age: 3 years
Breed:  Malamute X

Adoption Fee: $270 (includes desexing, vaccinations, microchip, worming & heartworm treatment)

Other information provided:

JESSIE, a Mal X female, came through the PAWS program after being surrendered. She is now searching for a very special home, with an owner who will be able to commit to her 100%.
A sweet natured and affectionate girl of approximately 3 yrs of age, Jess is a social butterfly and loves being with people and older children. She has had some basic obedience training and would love to be taught some more.
Jessie is currently learning how to be social with other dogs and this may be a long process which will follow her into her new home. She will need continual socialisation with other dogs, to help her be the very best that she can be! She will not be suitable to live with cats or rabbits/birds and will need secured fencing. Being a Malamute cross, we would love to find Jess an experienced Malamute home.
Jessie would love to find herself a home where she can be a proper part of the family, and be included in new adventures and travels (even if it is a trip to the beach).

DAMON is 5 yr old gentle boy who is a very friendly and extremely affectionate, he likes to stay by your side and loves his tummy rubs. He is a touch bigger and darker in colouring than Nikki.
NIKKI is very friendly as well. She is the more playful and active than Damon, even though at 7 yrs old, she is 2 years older than him. She just loves playing soccer! Apparently Nikki is not good with small animals...so no cats or pocket pets would be suitable.
They are reasonably obedient and do know how to sit, but not for very long. They don’t really jump except when people arrive and will peer up to greet you at the fence. Both would benefit from ongoing obedience training.
They are quite happy and healthy dogs and have been together since Damon was 8 weeks old and extremely close. Nikki is quite motherly with him and the boss of the 2.. They would not handle being separated...so need to be rehomed together.
Their original owner only had 4ft fencing and neither ever attempted to escape. They would need someone prepared to give them the attention they deserve, walk them daily and groom frequently.
If you would like to help this gorgeous pair, please contact Dijana on the details below. You won't regret it and they will reward you with cuddles and kisses forever.
Please contact Dijana (AMRAA) if you can help by fostering or adopting Nikki & Damon.

ame: CHARLIE
Sex: Male - desexed
Age: 2 years
Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Adoption Fee: $300
(Includes desexing, c5 vaccination, microchip, heartworm test/treated, flea/worm treated)
Other information provided:
CHARLIE is a very handsome young Mally boy of approx. 2 yrs old. He has been living with his mother, Alaska, (also availaible for adoption) and gets on fabulously with her but he's not been socialised with other dogs, so it's unknown at present how he will get on with them but he has been fine when sees other dog when out walking.
He is very strong on the lead and will benefit from further socialisation and obedience training to help him transform into the perfect dog with a family who have an active lifestyle. Charlie has a lot of youthful exuberance and very energetic, so is looking for a home with plenty of adventures he could be included in. He likes to play too rough for smaller children but teens might be great fun for him and vice versa.
As with all Mals, he would need high, secure and strong fencing, daily exercise and frequent grooming.
If Charlie sounds like your perfect companion, give Dijana a call or email, she'd love to hear from you!

Name: ALASKA
Sex: Female - desexed
Age: 5 years
Breed:  Alaskan Malamute
Adoption Fee: $300
(Includes desexing, c5 vaccination, microchip, heartworm test/treated, flea/worm treated)
Other information provided:
ALASKA is a pretty 5 yr old Mally girl, who allows full handling and is extremely affectionate. She is a very active and quite boisterous girl who would need an energetic Mally savvy owner willing to provide ongoing obedience training and socialisation as she has had little of either and is very strong on lead. She has currently been living with her son and gets on fine with him.
Alaska is currently an outdoor dog but would love to be an indoor dog as well as be involved in daily family adventures. She would need to be groomed frequently and exercised each day, as she LOVES her walks. High, secure fencing is required.
This gorgeous girl would reward her new furever family a hundredfold with love and affection if she was given the opportunity to reach her full potential. Alaska would love to become a member of your family...she gives GREAT Mally kisses!!!
Please contact Dijana at AMRAA if you are interested in adopting Alaska.
